Lately the bogeyman for all my pains seems to be Arimidex. For the past eight weeks I've had such horrible, horrible muscle pain in my right leg that I've only managed to hobble. It travelled up from my calf, went to the inside of my knee and seemed to want to crawl up my thigh when it stopped, and seems to have haltered for the moment.
Dr. Schaeffer sent me for a Venus Doppler so she could rule out a deep vein thrombosis. Thank goodness it wasn't a blood clot! I apparently have a Baker's Cyst: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bakers-cyst/DS00448 It's located at the back of my knee slightly to the left. The doctor is attributing my leg pain to this cyst, but I know it is not due to that.
Even though I did not know what the pain behind my knee was called, I've known of its presence for a long time. This is the pain that tells me I have walked enough after I've spent four hours on my feet walking around Golden Gate Park, or I've spent too long on the elliptical. This is not the cause of the crippling muscle pain that makes me want to weep.
That searing pain has disappeared and there is now only a dull ache around my knee cap. It's the normal joint pain that I have often associated with arthritis. Yes, I am blaming Arimidex for the intensity in joint pain and for the muscle pain in so many parts of my body.
I gave up wheat on February 5 and I will keep this up for six months. If I see an improvement in my joint and muscle pain, I will definitely keep to this regime. And if nothing happens, it will be a lesson learned and I will move on to something else. I have to keep finding ways to live in comfort in what is now my new reality.
