Wearing Pink Again

When I was a teenager in the angst filled days of the 1970's my favorite colors were earth tone -- brown, green, blue (navy), and this apparently bothered my mother. I remember her telling me that I was young and that I should wear bright colors ... pink was the color she tried to hoist on me. But I was having none of that then!

Now I am embracing the pink. I've painted my toenails Avon Viva Pink. And I am hunting through my closet for pink items ... I am surprised that I have quite a number of things in varying shades of pink. I am sure that Sarah will claim she harangued me into buying them! Maybe she did a little ...

Mummy ... I know you see me. I know this is not what you wanted for me but I am wearing pink now!

  1. When we were younger, I remember how mummy used to paint her toenails even though she didn't paint her fingernails. When I asked her why she did that she replied that she felt "naked" if she didn't do it. :) I guess it had become a habit for her. I love this shade of pink on you and am sure mum would've too because pink was the only colour she ever painted her toenails with. I carry on another one of mum's pink legacies-the legacy of the pink lipstick. I absolutely love my pink lipsticks, especially "Pink In the Afternoon" by Revlon for day time wear and finding it hard to like myself in other colours.

Mummy most definitely won't have wanted for you to go through all this but rest assured that she is watching over you. And we will be here for you all the way.

  2. I remember ... Mum's nail polish was always that pale pink that she loved. I feel her presence everyday and it gives me strength. We have something that not every daughter has ... a mother who set an example for us on how to deal with adversity. I hope I make her proud.
